Ātea a Rangi in NZ
Ātea a Rangi star compass consists of 32 carved pou or posts that represent the rising and setting points of the stars and the sun throughout the year. The star compass is used to teach the art of whakatere waka or traditional sailing, as well as the Māori lunar calendar, astronomy, and culture. The star compass is also a place of celebration and ceremony, where people gather to mark the solstices and equinoxes, and to honour the ancestors and the environment
